Bottom Line is defense wins championships. If the Warriors ever want to reach the Finals it must first start on the defensive end. They are great offensively but good offense can only take you so far. Over the last 9 years all NBA Finals winners had a great defensive core. With the exception of the Heat in 05-06 (although they did have the big aristotle down low!) A big man will definetely help out but Don Nelson does not stress the importance of defense. Mike D'Antoni has the same philosophy as Nelson. Get a shot up within 12 seconds and shoot more shots than your opponent. It's really sad the Warriors did not take advantage of the trade deadline. Tyson Chandler was a big name on the market who would have helped on the defensive end. Sure he didn't pass the physical but every team has a different doctor! Another thing the Warriors must do is get a floor general. When they lost Baron Davis it really hurt them. A true point guard is hard to find now days. With the combination of a PG, C/PF, and defensive minded players the Warriors can go a long way. Never was big on Chris Mullen as a GM. This guy never seems to make any positive moves and consistantly has made poor draft day decisions. When your in the Western Conference running and gunning may take you to the playoffs. But just ask Pheonix how effective the style is in the playoffs.

  1. Yes Defense is key but when It comes to the Warriors first they must stick with what they know then work their way up to defense.  Adding a dominant center may help the defense of the Warriors.  The Warriors get a lot of pass deflections and steals but where they lack on defense is a big body in the lane to keep centers like Shaq and Yao out of the lane.  The Warriors give up so many second chance points resulting from offensive rebounds its really hard for them to make a run.  The Warriors gave up 18 offensive rebounds to the Lakers last game and 15 to Portland the game before.  They beat Portland but lost to the lakers.  The biggest offensive rebound was the one they gave up to Odom with 4 minutes left in the game which resulted in a Kobe 3 pointer which put the Lakers up 6.
